Focus On Running

As the interest in running continues to surge across the country, Sports Talk, a weekly radio program on DZMM anchored by Freddie Webb and Gretchen Fullido, will have the sport in its main menu for two consecutive Saturdays.   The show airs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The first episode went on air last Saturday, February 20, and had for its guests, Coach Miguel ‘Ige’ Lopez of Mizuno and Mr. Lit Onrubia, the country’s first and only certified Chi Running instructor and a resident coach of RUNNR Specialty Store.  Also present was Ms. May Valle-Ceniza, special events director of DZMM, mainly to promote Takbo Para Sa Kalikasan Year 11, which kicks off on February 28 at the Quirino Grandstand.

The episode, aptly titled Running 101, focused on the ABC’s of running and dealt on various topics such as, why there is a current running boom, choice of running shoes, proper running form, common running injuries and how to start a running program.  What is noticeable about Sports Talk is that they conduct their discussions mostly in the vernacular, which make it more appealing to the masses.  Freddie Webb, the main anchor, even reminds his co-anchors and guests to speak in Tagalog, which is very commendable.  Also the anchors do not sound and appear stiff (the show is simulcast on Skycable TV Channel 26), although they are not necessarily running enthusiasts.  The conversations progress smoothly much like the way how friends do things among themselves, when they converge in a watering hole to discuss anything under the sun.

The next episode airs on February 27 and is expected to deal more on the finer aspects of running.
